"Charlie, we accept the love we think we deserve." (page 24)
- I find this quote very interesting, especially when you see examples of this behavior in the real world. I see couples that I dont usually believe are fit for each other, because one might be "too good" for the other one. And it makes me think of this quote, and how that people might have low self asteem issues because they might deserve better from my perspective.
"You see things. You keep quiet about them. And you understand." (page 37)
- I believe this quote describes Charlie very well. Because Charlie comes across as the shy type in the book, and he also seems to keep to himself. Charlie learns from what he sees, and hears from other people in the book, and he obtains knowledge from it so he gets a better understanding of things in his life.
"I look at people holding hands in the hallways, and I try to think about how it all works. At the school dances, I sit in the background, and I tap my toe, and I wonder how many couples will dance to 'their song.' In the hallways, I see the girls wearing the guys’ jackets, and I think about the idea of property. And I wonder if anyone is really happy. I hope they are. I really hope they are." (Page 24-25)
- I feel that this quote is a great example of what Patrick said to Charlie in the quote before, "You see things. You keep quiet about them. And you understand." Because Charlie is so quiet and not very outgoing, he usually understands things better from learning from other people and their mistakes, and how they live their lives. Charlie really is a caring person and wishes the best for other people, and I believe that this quote is a good example of that.
